Genre               : Friendship

Three hundred and eighteen pages long of Knit Two by Kate Jacobs had never failed to bring joy long-term friendship of Friday night knitting club. The six settled members struggling with their own issues after Georgia who is the legitimate owner of the yarn store, Walker and Daughter had passed away since five years ago. The rest of the members including her daughter, Dakota had to face with some kind the issues like true self-finding, personal carrier, complicated romance, and family priority. The problems didn’t tear them apart otherwise it bonded them even more. They supported each other and successfully passed at the end of day.
As this novel tells about friendship, we can found KC, Peri, Lucie, Catherine, Darwin, and Dakota, the knitting club members as the main characters in the novel. But, the story     developed much on Dakota and Catherine. Dakota is the yarn store’s owner’s daughter who still trying to move on from her grief. As a freshman of NYU, she was eager to explore more her passion on pastry. She  also demanded freedom from her father, James. In the other side, Catherine was felt the same towards Dakota’s mom, Georgia. She had miserable days after she lost her and try her best tirelessly encourage James to look up and focus on Dakota. As an independent woman, she did quite badly on romance. Not until the last pages she succeeded on her love line.
If I have to choose my favorite character in this Novel, no doubt Dakota will be in the first place. She knows what she wanted and never get distracted by the thing that inhibited her to reach her goals. She dreamed of travelled outside New York and Manhattan because she was sick of her daily routine which insisted her to be always  in her knit store. Therefore, she accepted to babysit Lucie’s daughter, Ginger, in Italy when Lucie had to take photoshooot there in summer holiday. She had to hardly argue with his father, because her father didn’t give her permission to let his only daughter becomes a Nanny of white people. Dakota never took it offensive, notwithstanding she thought it was a big chance for her to get out of her place, travelled, find new experiences. I wish I had her sense of freedom and absolutely did’nt be afraid of what others think, otherwise see something in positive side. That’s how Dakota showed throughout the story.
I also can find Dakota’s behaviour funny when it comes to her affection towards Walker and Daughter, the store, the place where the club exist. She declined to continue her mother business because she wanted to learn pastry, but she cried a river when the store sink in the water. As the legitimate owner, she stated that even if she didn’t want to work on the store, doesn’t mean she wanted the store to be broken, or sold. The store had so many beautiful memories that couldn’t be replaced by anything. She expreesed the anger towards Darwin’s mom because she was the one who caused the water flood in the water. It’s interesting to see Dakota’s afffectionate side in this case.
The story will be perfect if i couldn’t find the flaw in Catherine’s plot. She did something that I found it ridiculous. I knew that it’s been a long time she never get in touch with romance, but that doesn’t meant she had to be selfish towards her best friend who had help her much.  She told lie to Anita about she moved to another place when Nathan, Anita’s son had to settle in her place for a couple days. In fact, they lived together even make a hot relationship. Until the end of the novel she never revealed the truth to Anita who had the right to know about it.
However, the story would be much better if the author put more exposure on Nathan’s existence in the story. If I am the author I would make clear the status between him and Catherine and give resolution in the end of the story even though he was only the supportive character throughout the novel. Their love line remains hanging without being solved and makes Catherine looks like a bad character. Catherin deserves better ending on romance for what she had been through towards the member of the club and after her miserably days.
The friendship of KC, Peri, Lucie, Darwin, Catherine, Anita, and Dakota looks very sincere regardless their ages. The age different between five of them with Dakota made them treat her way better. I never found such friendship happened in real live. The way they support and care to each other was mesmerizing, it triggered me to remember my old fine days I spent with my friends. The differences I had with them are the intensity of meeting and communicating. Their last friendship moved me so much.
From the novel I can learn that friend can be more than friend. Calling our friend as our family is possible as long as our friendship is sincere. It is reflected on Friday knitting club on Walker and Daughter on how they felt the same blue when they were left by Georgia, how they try to resolve each other problem, how they gathered both for congratulate happiness or sadness. Even though in some reason not all of the problem they had can be shared, they tried their best to maintain their friendship at the end of the day.

Unfinished Short Story

Cafe Daydream I remember that   I met him two years ago in a coffee shop near by the Maryglots lake. Friday night with Barry Manillow’s famous song on the played accompanied me sitting alone at the seat by the window. The drizzles outside became my sight view while I was waiting for my chocolate milkshake to arrive because I had nothing to be done since my phone out of battery. People’s crowded footsteps could be heard clearly by me. I looked up the café’s door every time the people passed by. Suddenly, someone that was familiar appeared through the door alone. He looked similar with someone I knew. I observed him from top to toe. A bit messy brown hair fit his small face. He wore a moss green inner turtle neck with a dark brown long coat and black skinny pants; all were perfect but one, his puffy grey slipper. He walked straight to the order table, I didn’t what he was order he did it by pointing at the menu screen and comb his hair at the same time. Then, he looked ar...

Viola vs Violin

VIOLA VS VIOLIN Being a fan of classical music gives me new the knowledge of some instruments. Even though I am not a musician, I am interested in classical instruments and orchestra. One of the instruments that attract me the most is Violin. Before I go deeper to know more about violin, I thought violin is the English translation of Biola in Indonesia and had no clues about viola, but after I watched some YouTube videos and did some web-surfing, I realized that viola and violin are two different instruments. Here are some differences and similarities between those look alike instruments. If I catch a glimpse of both instruments, they look like twin. I might call viola as violin and other way around. But if we observe the details, their differences on physical appearances are obvious. The wooden materials and accessories such as case, bow, strings, tuner, chin and shoulder rest might deceive us, but if we look further on their size, measurements and clef I can tell they ar...
